Our History

The Presbyterian Church came to Havre de Grace in 1841 during the transportation boom as construction flourished with the railroad, canal and steamship lines. Within two years, the congregation constructed a simple frame, Greek Revival Style building for its worship. The same basic building is in use for Sunday and evening services ever since.

Throughout the years major changes have been made to our church campus to fulfill the church’s mission. The first changes were made in the late 19th century when the basic structure was modified for an enclosed front entrance and a small balcony in the rear of the sanctuary, a large addition in the rear of the structure for Sunday School classes and a choir loft as well as a handsome Victorian home and church office for the pastor.

The 20th Century provided a brand new two-story Christian Education wing as well as a major updating of the whole sanctuary building with a white brick façade. So far in the 21st Century our improvement has been a most appreciated large elevator which makes our entire floor space accessible and available to all.

Grateful to God for our history; we invite you to be a part of the future as we serve God, this community of Havre de Grace and the world in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
